The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has gazetted November 7, 2019 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-elections .  In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC said each political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election has until August 26, 2019 to submit names of candidates set to take part in the nominations. Party nominations according to IEBC, will be held on September 9 and 10 ,2019. Business: KENYA AIRWAYS reports Billions of Losses

Kenya Airways has today reported Ksh8.56 billion net loss for the half year ending June 30, from a loss of Ksh4.03 billion recorded in similar period last year. This is despite a slight growth in total income during the period which closed at Sh58.9 billion compared to Sh52.2 billion. Big win for Kenya on UN Security Council seat

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, Photo courtesy Kenya has been nominated as the African candidate for UN Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in second round of voting at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. A committee of envoys representing member states of the AU headquarters, officially known as the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) made the decision in a secret ballot. Kenya will now contest at the United Nations for a one-year non-permanent seat in elections slated for next year in June.

KNUT SECRETARY GENERAL WILSON SOSSION WANTS TSC ABOLISHED

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)  Secretary General Wilson Sossion now wants the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to be abolished. According to Mr. Sossion, who blames the commission for the endless stalemate between the government and teachers, an independent body should be created to help in the regulation of teachers’ welfare. Mr. Sossion also revealed that the union had already proposed amendments in the TSC Act that should only leave the commission with the responsibility of employing teachers. “The mandate that we granted TSC is bad, we need to return it back into the Ministry of Education. We cannot have two government bodies manning the same thing; education. We need to have one office and the money they are using should be used to employ teachers,” said Sossion. Auditor General Edward Ouko at past event ,photo courtesy Auditor General Mr. Edward Ouko’s tenure comes to an end on 26 Th August 2019 having served a non-renewable term of eight years. Ouko was appointed as the first Auditor-General of the Republic of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution on 27 Th  August, 2011. Mr. Ouko is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (FCA) and is a co-opted Council Member of the Institute representing Africa. He is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA) and holds a B. Com Degree (Hons) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Nairobi. Before his appointment, Mr. Ouko was the Auditor General at the African Development Bank where he directed the audit function and was also in charge of the anti-corruption and fraud function up to June 2010.
