Census official arrested in Nyamira for using laptop to 'pay' beer bill

Police in Nyamira on Friday arrested a census official for using a census laptop and a power bank as collateral after he failed to pay a beer bill. The officer, an ICT expert, was apprehended after he missed pre-census preparation and briefing meeting on Wednesday.   Mr Japhan Wachiali, the head of statistics in Nyamira, said the officer has since been interdicted and replaced. Authorities say that their investigations show that the officer, who wanted drink beer, did not have money to pay his bills. He offered the census gadgets as collateral. It is not clear how much beer he had consumed by the time of his arrest.

Census is expected to kick off officially on Saturday 24 Th August 2019 and the enumerators are expected to take 30 minutes in every household they visit. “Counting will continue up to the 31st August 2019 when counting is scheduled to end. Keroche Breweries owners freed on bail

The Magistrate sitting on the tax evasion case involving Keroche Breweries Directors against The Kenya Revenue Authority has set the Keroche Breweries Bosses free on bail terms. “Joseph Karanja to pay cash bail Ksh. 2million within seven days while Mrs. Karanja should pay Ksh. 10million immediately’’ Magistrate Andayi ruled. Mr. Karanja underwent surgery and was released on a personal bond and presented himself to court today.

AUDITOR GENERAL EDWARD OUKO EXITS OFFICE

Auditor General Edward Ouko at past event ,photo courtesy Auditor General Mr. Edward Ouko’s tenure comes to an end on 26 Th August 2019 having served a non-renewable term of eight years. Ouko was appointed as the first Auditor-General of the Republic of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution on 27 Th  August, 2011. Mr. Ouko is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (FCA) and is a co-opted Council Member of the Institute representing Africa. He is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA) and holds a B. Com Degree (Hons) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Nairobi. Before his appointment, Mr. Ouko was the Auditor General at the African Development Bank where he directed the audit function and was also in charge of the anti-corruption and fraud function up to June 2010.
