School suspends SDA students for refusing to seat exams on Saturday

Five students from AIC Chebisaas Boys High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County moved to court on Wednesday after they were suspended for allegedly refusing to sit for exams on a Saturday.
According to the students who belong to the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) faith, Saturday is their professed Sabbath Day and they should observe it by going  Church.
The school management allegedly suspended them on July 6, 2019 for failing to do the allocated exams their Sabbath Day. The students accused the school of infringing on their religious rights.

Government cancels earlier announced public holiday

“Contrary to our earlier dispatch on the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, we wish to clarify that His Excellency the President did not announce that August 26 will be a public holiday,” read the statement from PSCU. “We regret the error and wish to say that as much as the Kenya 2019 Population and Housing Census is important to the country, August 26 which will be on a Monday will not be a public holiday. The 28 years old will be the club's most expensive player in history. President Uhuru Kenyatta declares another Holiday in August

The Government has declared August 26 as a  public holiday to allow maximum enumeration of Kenyans during the National Population Census that begins next Saturday. The announcement was made today by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kenyatta National Convention Centre (KICC) , Nairobi when he launched the countdown to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census. "To ensure maximum enumeration during the first two days ( August 24 and 25)  of the Census period, I have authorized Monday, 26th August 2019 to be a Public Holiday," the President announced.  This brings the number of Holidays declared by the Government this  August to two.

Oparanya: Governors to shutdown County Governments in September

Governors to shutdown counties from September 16 if the Division of Revenue bill impasse is not resolved, CoG chair Wycliffe Oparanya has announced. CoG chair Wycliffe Oparanya addrssing the press, photo courtesy The Council of Governors (CoG) Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya said the Division of Revenue Bill 2019 stalemate has pushed county governments to the edge, making it difficult to pay workers on time.  He said all operations in all counties will be stopped on September 16, 2019.
