The amount of Money Ken Okoth's family set to receive from Parliament

The family of former Kibra MP Ken Okoth will get Sh32 million from Parliament. The amount includes his group life insurance cover and death gratuity.
''But they will have to wait for some time since Parliament must first get a letter from the courts indicating the administrator of the late MP’s estate,”  MPs’ pensions expert has said
“Yes the family is entitled to Sh32 million before tax, but we are not releasing the money now. We have to follow the law, which requires that we have to first get the letter of the administrator of the estate,” the source said.
“If the family agree on how to share the money, the name of the administrator must be published in the Kenya Gazette, so that anybody with an issue can come up,”
The deceased’s brother, Mr Imran Okoth, however declined to comment on the matter citing that the matter is private and the family lawyer is best placed to handle it.
“I don’t know why they are telling you the amount and all that. Why would they do that yet these are personal matters?” he said

The two Alex Mahaga and Frank Wanyama were found guilty of raping a musician last year at the Highrise Estate. This comes despite the defense praying for a noncustodial sentence. The Court was told that the two Kenya Harlequin FC players raped the singer overnight on her birthday at Seefar Apartments in Highrise, Nairobi, on February 10 last year.

A company sacks 800 staff

East African Portland Cement Company  (EAPCC) has declared redundant all its 800 employees, setting the stage for a leaner workforce with an eye on trimming the company’s bloated wage bill. Acting EAPCC managing director Stephen Nthei Thursday said the sacked employees’ roles will be merged and salaries reduced to keep the struggling cement maker afloat. “We have a workforce whose total cost, compared to the productivity, is very high. Our target is to operate with less than 600 people earning less than what they are earning now,” said Mr Nthei.
