Mombasa MCA arrested after Fred Matiangi's order

A member of Mombasa County Assembly (MCA) was arrested on Monday in connection to drug trafficking.
Bofu Ward Representative Ahmed Salama was arrested in Likoni following the operation targeting politicians and businessmen suspected to be behind narcotics trade.
His arrest comes a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i held a meeting with politicians and security team. At least 18 people have been arrested so far.
Interestingly, the MCA is among leaders who attended Dr Matiang’i’s meeting at Uhuru na Kazi in Mombasa. Source Daily Nation

Big win for Kenya on UN Security Council seat

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, Photo courtesy Kenya has been nominated as the African candidate for UN Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in second round of voting at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. A committee of envoys representing member states of the AU headquarters, officially known as the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) made the decision in a secret ballot. Kenya will now contest at the United Nations for a one-year non-permanent seat in elections slated for next year in June.

KNUT SECRETARY GENERAL WILSON SOSSION WANTS TSC ABOLISHED

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)  Secretary General Wilson Sossion now wants the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to be abolished. According to Mr. Sossion, who blames the commission for the endless stalemate between the government and teachers, an independent body should be created to help in the regulation of teachers’ welfare. Mr. Sossion also revealed that the union had already proposed amendments in the TSC Act that should only leave the commission with the responsibility of employing teachers. “The mandate that we granted TSC is bad, we need to return it back into the Ministry of Education. We cannot have two government bodies manning the same thing; education. We need to have one office and the money they are using should be used to employ teachers,” said Sossion. This comes a day after t he Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  gazetted November 7, 2019 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-elections .  In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC said each political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election has until August 26, 2019 to submit names of candidates set to take part in the nominations. Party nominations according to IEBC, will be held on September 9 and 10 ,2019. The competition organised by the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Irrigation and Elgon Kenya, a non-governmental organisation, was aimed at encouraging farmers to transform their farms through technology. “In 2009, I bought a pedigree Friesian heifer which gave birth to the first heifer the following year.
