More than 3000 of contraband sugar disappear from godowns

Police are investigating loss of more than 3000 bags of sugar suspected to be laced with mercury in two godowns in Changamwe and Jomvu in Mombasa.
The godowns were closed last year by a multi agency team led by KEBS and KRA probing contraband sugar suspected to be contaminated with mercury and copper.
In one the godowns owned by Bollore in Changamwe, thousands of sugar bags disappeared two weeks ago. Source the Star

ODM'S ELECTIONS BOARD GIVES NOTICE ON KIBRA BY-ELECTIONS

''NEB invites interests persons for the Kibra parliamentary seat to download application forms from party website www.odm.co.ke , fill and submit to the Party Headquarters by close of business on Friday 23rd August 2019 '' a statement from the ODM Party reads. This comes a day after t he Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  gazetted November 7, 2019 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-elections .  In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC said each political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election has until August 26, 2019 to submit names of candidates set to take part in the nominations. Party nominations according to IEBC, will be held on September 9 and 10 ,2019. Oparanya: Governors to shutdown County Governments in September

Governors to shutdown counties from September 16 if the Division of Revenue bill impasse is not resolved, CoG chair Wycliffe Oparanya has announced. Raila is set to receive the Icon of Democracy Award during the upcoming Africa Voice Achievers Award to be held in Nairobi on August 16. The African Union High Representative for Infrastructure will be among several Kenyans and Africans who will be feted during the third edition of the awards targeting personalities who have had a positive impact on communities in countries or region they live in. Each year people from various walks of life nominates individuals who they deem fit to be recognized for their contributions towards the advancement of Africa,” said Rev. Ambassador Elvis Iruh who runs the Netherlands-based Voice Magazine and founder of the award. The award committee is set up by the magazine’s board to screen and verify all nominations that are received. After shortlisting, the candidates are informed to accept their nominations.
