A company sacks 800 staff

East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) has declared redundant all its 800 employees, setting the stage for a leaner workforce with an eye on trimming the company’s bloated wage bill.Acting EAPCC managing director Stephen Nthei Thursday said the sacked employees’ roles will be merged and salaries reduced to keep the struggling cement maker afloat.
“We have a workforce whose total cost, compared to the productivity, is very high. Our target is to operate with less than 600 people earning less than what they are earning now,” said Mr Nthei.
Employees who successfully reapply for their jobs will be expected to take a 40 percent cut on their previous wages. Source Business Daily

Ouko was appointed as the first Auditor-General of the Republic of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution on 27 Th  August, 2011. Mr. Ouko is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (FCA) and is a co-opted Council Member of the Institute representing Africa. He is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA) and holds a B. Com Degree (Hons) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Nairobi. ''NEB invites interests persons for the Kibra parliamentary seat to download application forms from party website www.odm.co.ke , fill and submit to the Party Headquarters by close of business on Friday 23rd August 2019 '' a statement from the ODM Party reads. This comes a day after t he Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  gazetted November 7, 2019 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-elections .  In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC said each political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election has until August 26, 2019 to submit names of candidates set to take part in the nominations. Party nominations according to IEBC, will be held on September 9 and 10 ,2019. Elizabeth Ongoro,in past press briefing Former Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro has decided not to run for the vacant Kibra constituency seat. Elizabeth Ongoro while addressing the media sited that the constituents of Kibra were not in 'poverty' of good leaders and will make their decisions during the by-elections. Kibra Constituency was represented by the late Ken Okoth who passed on at The Nairobi Hospital early this month. The Speaker of the National Assembly has already declared the Kibra seat vacant and it was speculated Ongoro would be among the already long list of those aspiring to replace Ken Okoth.
