Nyeri County rejects ‘Punguza mzingo’ bill According to Kirinya Govornor Ann Waiguru, the rejection of Ekuru Aukot proposed amendments to the constitution sets a sign of the times ahead. The Governor has been in support of the BBI which is yet to present its report to Kenyans. ''As I've said before, Mt Kenya is fully in support of BBI as evidenced today in Nyeri where the bill presented by Ekuru Aukot has been rejected by the whole assembly. The  Uasin Gishu Women Rep while appearing on K24's  Punchline on Sunday night together with her   Homa Bay counterpart Gladys Wanga ,  said that “When people from Rift Valley woke up to vote in 2017, they did not wake up to vote for Uhuru Kenyatta. They woke up to vote for Ruto who was in partnership with Uhuru Kenyatta.” Gladys Shollei The Woman Rep further added that many people in the Rift Valley voted for Jubilee Party in 2013 and 2017 General Elections  because they supported Ruto and not President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Raila Odinga set to receive an African major Award

Raila is set to receive the Icon of Democracy Award during the upcoming Africa Voice Achievers Award to be held in Nairobi on August 16. The African Union High Representative for Infrastructure will be among several Kenyans and Africans who will be feted during the third edition of the awards targeting personalities who have had a positive impact on communities in countries or region they live in. Each year people from various walks of life nominates individuals who they deem fit to be recognized for their contributions towards the advancement of Africa,” said Rev. Ambassador Elvis Iruh who runs the Netherlands-based Voice Magazine and founder of the award. The award committee is set up by the magazine’s board to screen and verify all nominations that are received. After shortlisting, the candidates are informed to accept their nominations.

More than 3000 of contraband sugar disappear from godowns

Police are investigating loss of more than 3000 bags of sugar suspected to be laced with mercury in two godowns in Changamwe and Jomvu in Mombasa. The godowns were closed last year by a multi agency team led by KEBS and KRA probing contraband sugar suspected to be contaminated with mercury and copper. In one the godowns owned by Bollore in Changamwe, thousands of sugar bags disappeared two weeks ago. Source the Star

School suspends SDA students for refusing to seat exams on Saturday

Five students from AIC Chebisaas Boys High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County moved to court on Wednesday after they were suspended for allegedly refusing to sit for exams on a Saturday. According to the students who belong to the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) faith, Saturday is their professed Sabbath Day and they should observe it by going  Church. The school management allegedly suspended them on July 6, 2019 for failing to do the allocated exams their Sabbath Day. The students accused the school of infringing on their religious rights.

South Sudan deports 16 Kenyans

Kenyan flag ,image courtesy Sixteen Kenyans are expected back home after South Sudan ordered for their deportation. The 16 Kenyans, alongside four British nationals, were working for a private security company but on Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior gave them 72 hours to leave the country. According to The East African, the deportation orders came just a few days after their company, Insight Security, failed to resolve a pay dispute over salaries and arrears of guards working for the firm. “There are 16 Kenyan nationals who have been given 72 hours to pay all dues which they owe the government, and also pay our people their pensions…then leave the country,” Thiik Thiik Mayardit, the Juba deputy mayor said. The Insight Security firm was closed down last week on allegations that it exploited local workers and had not paid taxes. Mombasa MCA arrested after Fred Matiangi's order

A member of Mombasa County Assembly (MCA) was arrested on Monday in connection to drug trafficking. Bofu Ward Representative Ahmed Salama was arrested in Likoni following the operation targeting politicians and businessmen suspected to be behind narcotics trade. His arrest comes a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i held a meeting with politicians and security team. At least 18 people have been arrested so far. Interestingly, the MCA is among leaders who attended Dr Matiang’i’s meeting at Uhuru na Kazi in Mombasa. Source Daily Nation
