The Magistrate sitting on the tax evasion case involving Keroche Breweries Directors against The Kenya Revenue Authority has set the Keroche Breweries Bosses free on bail terms. “Joseph Karanja to pay cash bail Ksh. 2million within seven days while Mrs. Karanja should pay Ksh. 10million immediately’’ Magistrate Andayi ruled. Mr. Karanja underwent surgery and was released on a personal bond and presented himself to court today.

Raila Odinga set to receive an African major Award

Raila is set to receive the Icon of Democracy Award during the upcoming Africa Voice Achievers Award to be held in Nairobi on August 16. The African Union High Representative for Infrastructure will be among several Kenyans and Africans who will be feted during the third edition of the awards targeting personalities who have had a positive impact on communities in countries or region they live in. Each year people from various walks of life nominates individuals who they deem fit to be recognized for their contributions towards the advancement of Africa,” said Rev. Ambassador Elvis Iruh who runs the Netherlands-based Voice Magazine and founder of the award. The award committee is set up by the magazine’s board to screen and verify all nominations that are received. After shortlisting, the candidates are informed to accept their nominations.

Business: KENYA AIRWAYS reports Billions of Losses

Kenya Airways has today reported Ksh8.56 billion net loss for the half year ending June 30, from a loss of Ksh4.03 billion recorded in similar period last year. This is despite a slight growth in total income during the period which closed at Sh58.9 billion compared to Sh52.2 billion. Big win for Kenya on UN Security Council seat

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, Photo courtesy Kenya has been nominated as the African candidate for UN Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in second round of voting at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. A committee of envoys representing member states of the AU headquarters, officially known as the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) made the decision in a secret ballot. Kenya will now contest at the United Nations for a one-year non-permanent seat in elections slated for next year in June.

Safaricom employee charged for stealing Ksh. 45,000 from a deceased customer

Peter Odhiambo has been accused for accessing Janet Khaniri’s Safaricom line and making away with Sh45,600 on July 26 from her M-Pesa account. He was arraigned at a Milimani court yesterday jointly charged with others not before court.  Mr. Odhiambo pleaded not guilty to the charges and the prosecution did not object to his release on bond. His lawyer Kenneth however argued that he had a similar charge in another court. “Your honour, I don’t understand why the prosecution is bringing this case in piecemeal. We have another matter similar to this one. It is confusing,” the lawyer told Milimani Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku.  Odhiambo was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with an alternative of Sh100,000 cash bail. ODM'S ELECTIONS BOARD GIVES NOTICE ON KIBRA BY-ELECTIONS

''NEB invites interests persons for the Kibra parliamentary seat to download application forms from party website www.odm.co.ke , fill and submit to the Party Headquarters by close of business on Friday 23rd August 2019 '' a statement from the ODM Party reads. This comes a day after t he Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  gazetted November 7, 2019 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-elections .  In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC said each political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election has until August 26, 2019 to submit names of candidates set to take part in the nominations. Party nominations according to IEBC, will be held on September 9 and 10 ,2019. The Kibra  seat fell vacant following the death of former Member of Parliament Ken Okoth, who  succumbed to cancer at the Nairobi Hospital.  Here is the copy of the Notice
