Embakasi Member of Parliament Babu Owino has come out to criticize the Government 's crackdown on betting firms.
''You cannot pick-pocket a naked man, personally, for me, betting companies assisted me in paying my university fee. I graduated in my actuarial science degree because of betting, so don't tell us that betting is bad ''  Babu Owino 
The legislator has slammed CS for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang'i over the suspension of betting licences  accusing him of serving specific interests from specific individuals. 
''Betting is a willing buyer,willing seller and we cannot be told betting is bad'' Babu Owino added. He further said that next week he will mobilize youths to demonstrate against the Government's crackdown asking Gor mahia and AFC Leopards supporters to come out and join the peaceful demonstrations.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Sunday hosted several Rift Valley leaders in Kabarak as the battle between him and Deputy President William Ruto for control of the region continues of 2022. The leaders visited retired President Daniel Moi before holding a closed-door meeting with Gideon. Those present included Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, Moiben MP Sila Tiren, Nominated MP Wilson Sossion and Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat. Others were former MPs Zakayo Cheruiyot, Musa Sirma, Frankline Bett, former Governor Isaac Ruto, Businessman Bundotich Buzeki and Tiaty MP William Kamket. The leaders discussed several issues concerning the region, including the welfare of farmers, peace in Kerio Valley and political trends in the region. But he must first commit to Kenyans that in case of a defeat, he will gracefully accept the decision of Kenyans,” the Deputy President William Ruto said. Shock as Varsity students fail to apply for HELB loans

Panic has hit the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) over the declining number of continuing students in middle level colleges taking up subsequent allocations. It emerged yesterday that only half of the 43,000 who applied for loans last year have applied for a second allocation, raising questions on the whereabouts of the others. Questions are also being raised whether the students are dropping out of colleges after completing only one year of study, raising concerns over prudent utilization of public resources. The concern is further registered among first time applicants, with only 46,000 requests received by Helb out of the 98,000 who applied through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). Suspected Mombasa drug lord Ali Punjani today escaped police trap in his residence in drug swoop that has been declared by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
