Census official arrested in Nyamira for using laptop to 'pay' beer bill

Police in Nyamira on Friday arrested a census official for using a census laptop and a power bank as collateral after he failed to pay a beer bill.
The officer, an ICT expert, was apprehended after he missed pre-census preparation and briefing meeting on Wednesday.  
Mr Japhan Wachiali, the head of statistics in Nyamira, said the officer has since been interdicted and replaced.
Authorities say that their investigations show that the officer, who wanted drink beer, did not have money to pay his bills.
He offered the census gadgets as collateral. It is not clear how much beer he had consumed by the time of his arrest.

More than 3000 of contraband sugar disappear from godowns

Police are investigating loss of more than 3000 bags of sugar suspected to be laced with mercury in two godowns in Changamwe and Jomvu in Mombasa. The godowns were closed last year by a multi agency team led by KEBS and KRA probing contraband sugar suspected to be contaminated with mercury and copper. The Kenyan Premier League ( KPL ) have moved the venue of the opening match of the season between  Gor Mahia  and  Bandari  FC, set for Sunday. Baringo Senator Gideon Moi hosts leaders ahead of 2022 elections

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Sunday hosted several Rift Valley leaders in Kabarak as the battle between him and Deputy President William Ruto for control of the region continues of 2022. The leaders visited retired President Daniel Moi before holding a closed-door meeting with Gideon. Those present included Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, Moiben MP Sila Tiren, Nominated MP Wilson Sossion and Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat. Wedding turns tragic as a person dies, 10 hospitalized

One family member and more than 40 other guests fell ill after attending a wedding last weekend. According to reports, at least 10 guests and family members are currently admitted in various Nairobi hospitals after testing positive to cholera. As of Wednesday, at least three of them were admitted at Mater Hospital, three at Mama Lucy Hospital and four at the Kenyatta National Hospital. However, the groom Wilson Wamunyu and his wife Sarah survived the scare and flew for their honeymoon in Dubai immediately after the wedding on Saturday. Speaking to the media, Samson Mathu, the groom’s brother noted that their 89-year-old grandfather, Wamunyu Wilson, died on Tuesday at Mt Kenya Hospital.
