AUDITOR GENERAL EDWARD OUKO EXITS OFFICE

Auditor General Mr. Edward Ouko’s tenure comes to an end on 26Th August 2019 having served a non-renewable term of eight years. Ouko was appointed as the first Auditor-General of the Republic of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution on 27Th August, 2011.

Mr. Ouko is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (FCA) and is a co-opted Council Member of the Institute representing Africa. He is also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA) and holds a B. Com Degree (Hons) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Nairobi. Before his appointment, Mr. Ouko was the Auditor General at the African Development Bank where he directed the audit function and was also in charge of the anti-corruption and fraud function up to June 2010. Mr. Ouko before his appointment, served the African Development Bank (AfDB) for over 24 years in various capacities.

Mr. Ouko is set to leave office with a Public Lecture on Public Sector Accountability in the eyes of the first Auditor –General under the new Kenyan Constitution, at the University of Nairobi on 27Th August.

Raila Odinga set to receive an African major Award

Raila is set to receive the Icon of Democracy Award during the upcoming Africa Voice Achievers Award to be held in Nairobi on August 16. The African Union High Representative for Infrastructure will be among several Kenyans and Africans who will be feted during the third edition of the awards targeting personalities who have had a positive impact on communities in countries or region they live in. Each year people from various walks of life nominates individuals who they deem fit to be recognized for their contributions towards the advancement of Africa,” said Rev. Ambassador Elvis Iruh who runs the Netherlands-based Voice Magazine and founder of the award. The award committee is set up by the magazine’s board to screen and verify all nominations that are received. After shortlisting, the candidates are informed to accept their nominations.

Majority Leader Aden Duale to retire from politics if Ruto wins Presidency in 2022 Elections

The Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale has said he will quit politics if Deputy President William Ruto becomes president. Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Duale said he could even serve as a clerk in State House if Ruto wins in 2022. Duale who has been a firm supporter of the DP since 2007, acknowledged Ruto to be a strong politician The Garissa Town MP made it clear that the 2022 presidential race will be between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga. KNUT SECRETARY GENERAL WILSON SOSSION WANTS TSC ABOLISHED

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)  Secretary General Wilson Sossion now wants the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to be abolished. According to Mr. Sossion, who blames the commission for the endless stalemate between the government and teachers, an independent body should be created to help in the regulation of teachers’ welfare. Mr. Sossion also revealed that the union had already proposed amendments in the TSC Act that should only leave the commission with the responsibility of employing teachers. “The mandate that we granted TSC is bad, we need to return it back into the Ministry of Education. We cannot have two government bodies manning the same thing; education. We need to have one office and the money they are using should be used to employ teachers,” said Sossion.
