Siaya County Assembly shoots down 'Punguza Mzigo' bill

Siaya County Assembly becomes the second Assembly to say 'NO' to Ekuru Aukot's ‘Punguza Mzingo’ proposed amendments to the constitution. This comes a day after Legislature from Nyeri County Assembly rejected the bill.
The MCAs on their defense say proposed law likely to erode constitutional gains achieved since 2010. The proposed amendments require a backing of at least 25 counties to proceed to next level before it can be subjected to a referendum.

Mr Rudisha was driving a Toyota V8 engine when its tyre burst near Keroka town, colliding head on with Ena Coach. The 10.30pm Saturday incident occurred at a notorious black spot along the Kisii-Keroka highway. Rudisha's friend  Mr Stephen Marai  , said the athlete is out of danger and was treated at a hospital in Keroka and later moved to Kilgoris Sub-County Hospital. "Rudisha is okay, but he is nursing minor injuries. We are leaving Kilgoris to Keroka Police Station now where he is coming to meet the police," Marai said.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi hosts leaders ahead of 2022 elections

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Sunday hosted several Rift Valley leaders in Kabarak as the battle between him and Deputy President William Ruto for control of the region continues of 2022. The leaders visited retired President Daniel Moi before holding a closed-door meeting with Gideon. Those present included Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, Moiben MP Sila Tiren, Nominated MP Wilson Sossion and Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat. Others were former MPs Zakayo Cheruiyot, Musa Sirma, Frankline Bett, former Governor Isaac Ruto, Businessman Bundotich Buzeki and Tiaty MP William Kamket. The leaders discussed several issues concerning the region, including the welfare of farmers, peace in Kerio Valley and political trends in the region. Wedding turns tragic as a person dies, 10 hospitalized

One family member and more than 40 other guests fell ill after attending a wedding last weekend. According to reports, at least 10 guests and family members are currently admitted in various Nairobi hospitals after testing positive to cholera. As of Wednesday, at least three of them were admitted at Mater Hospital, three at Mama Lucy Hospital and four at the Kenyatta National Hospital. However, the groom Wilson Wamunyu and his wife Sarah survived the scare and flew for their honeymoon in Dubai immediately after the wedding on Saturday. Speaking to the media, Samson Mathu, the groom’s brother noted that their 89-year-old grandfather, Wamunyu Wilson, died on Tuesday at Mt Kenya Hospital. Mathu noted: “We have written to the food supplier to demand answers.” He revealed that the food was supplied by Hot Dishes, a Nairobi-based restaurant with outdoor catering services. Big win for Kenya on UN Security Council seat

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, Photo courtesy Kenya has been nominated as the African candidate for UN Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in second round of voting at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. A committee of envoys representing member states of the AU headquarters, officially known as the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) made the decision in a secret ballot. Kenya will now contest at the United Nations for a one-year non-permanent seat in elections slated for next year in June.

Safaricom employee charged for stealing Ksh. 45,000 from a deceased customer

Peter Odhiambo has been accused for accessing Janet Khaniri’s Safaricom line and making away with Sh45,600 on July 26 from her M-Pesa account. He was arraigned at a Milimani court yesterday jointly charged with others not before court.  Mr. Odhiambo pleaded not guilty to the charges and the prosecution did not object to his release on bond. His lawyer Kenneth however argued that he had a similar charge in another court. “Your honour, I don’t understand why the prosecution is bringing this case in piecemeal. We have another matter similar to this one. It is confusing,” the lawyer told Milimani Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku.  Odhiambo was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with an alternative of Sh100,000 cash bail. Business: Centum cuts CEO's salary by 75%

Centum CEO James Mworia at a past event,photo courtesy  Centum Company has cut its  chief executive James Mworia’s salary by 75 percent on grounds of inability to meet  the investment company’s  targets. His salary dropped from Sh177.6 million in 2018 to to Sh45 million in 2019. The company’s financial report for the year ending March 2019 reveals. This is because the company did not make enough to pay a bonus. “Our bonus remuneration is linked to the cash return of the business with a hurdle rate of 15 percent. We did not achieve that in the period and we were therefore not eligible for a bonus,” Mworia told Business Daily. This is the second year in a row that Mworia’s salary is dropping. In 2018, his salary dropped to Sh177.6 million from Sh219.2 million. Mr. Mworia thus fails to be among the top five highest paid CEO’s in Kenya. President Uhuru Kenyatta declares another Holiday in August

The Government has declared August 26 as a  public holiday to allow maximum enumeration of Kenyans during the National Population Census that begins next Saturday. The announcement was made today by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kenyatta National Convention Centre (KICC) , Nairobi when he launched the countdown to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census. "To ensure maximum enumeration during the first two days ( August 24 and 25)  of the Census period, I have authorized Monday, 26th August 2019 to be a Public Holiday," the President announced.  This brings the number of Holidays declared by the Government this  August to two.
