DPP lines up 67 witnesses against Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on 588M graft case

Deputy Director Public Prosecutions (DDPP) Nicholas Mutuku told the court that all documents that prosecution will be relying on are ready for service and can be picked from EACC offices. The court as set pre-trial conference on 27/9/2019. 
''Prosecution is ready for the trial of Governor Ferdinand Waititu & 12 others charged with irregular award of Sh588 million roads tender in Kiambu County. Prosecution has line up 67 witnesses.'' Statement from ODPP twitter handled reads.
Waititu was barred by the court from accessing his office until the graft case against him heard and determined. The prosecution had been pushing for officers including governors facing graft cases to step aside until their cases are concluded.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, Photo courtesy Kenya has been nominated as the African candidate for UN Security Council seat after defeating Djibouti in second round of voting at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. A committee of envoys representing member states of the AU headquarters, officially known as the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) made the decision in a secret ballot. Kenya will now contest at the United Nations for a one-year non-permanent seat in elections slated for next year in June.

KNUT SECRETARY GENERAL WILSON SOSSION WANTS TSC ABOLISHED

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)  Secretary General Wilson Sossion now wants the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to be abolished. According to Mr. Sossion, who blames the commission for the endless stalemate between the government and teachers, an independent body should be created to help in the regulation of teachers’ welfare. Mr. Sossion also revealed that the union had already proposed amendments in the TSC Act that should only leave the commission with the responsibility of employing teachers. “The mandate that we granted TSC is bad, we need to return it back into the Ministry of Education. We cannot have two government bodies manning the same thing; education. We need to have one office and the money they are using should be used to employ teachers,” said Sossion. ''NEB invites interests persons for the Kibra parliamentary seat to download application forms from party website www.odm.co.ke , fill and submit to the Party Headquarters by close of business on Friday 23rd August 2019 '' a statement from the ODM Party reads. This comes a day after t he Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  gazetted November 7, 2019 as the date for Kibra Constituency by-elections .  In a gazette notice dated August 16, IEBC said each political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election has until August 26, 2019 to submit names of candidates set to take part in the nominations. Party nominations according to IEBC, will be held on September 9 and 10 ,2019. He was awarded a gold certificate last week for his Sweet Farm Dairies Roret farm which stood out among others in the region. The competition organised by the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Irrigation and Elgon Kenya, a non-governmental organisation, was aimed at encouraging farmers to transform their farms through technology. “In 2009, I bought a pedigree Friesian heifer which gave birth to the first heifer the following year. The cows have since multiplied; I now have 13 cows. The number could have been higher than this but I sold some,” said Ngetich.
